Ogutu Muraya is a writer, playwright, poet and performing artist who specializes in storytelling. In June 2011 he performed as part of a storytelling tour at The Hay Festival– Wales, The World Heritage Center and Durham University in the UK. In 2009 he went on tour as a cast member of the critically acclaimed poetry show Cut off My Tongue by Sitawa Namwalie. As a poet his work has been published in the Black History Anthology a publication of USIU. His recent play Are We Here Yet? starring Lydiah Gitachu and Joni Githui premiered in July 2011 at the Braeburn Theatre and is currently on tour. Ogutu holds a BA in International Relations and currently works with Kwani Trust.

OM: A majority are anthologies and dramatic text i.e. Plays
LC: Who is your favourite author?
OM: It’s hard to pin it down to one author but the following rank high on my list;
– Grace Ogot
– David Ives
– Andre Brink
LC: Which authors/books would you highly recommend?
OM: Andre Brink’s State of Emergency – I love the unique style of writing, vivid descriptions and the proper mix of fiction and none-fiction.
